It is not appropriate to add urea in autumn

Urea is a very good supplementary feed for cattle. Urea is digested by microorganisms in the rumen of cows to synthesize bacterial protein, which can replace part of the protein feed. However, the addition of urea to cattle is only applicable to the winter and spring seasons, which are dominated by poor quality feed such as wheat straw, dry corn stalks, and hay. It is unfavorable to feed urea in autumn mainly including grasses and mature grass seeds. Because when using urea to feed cattle, the content of crude protein in the feed must not be too high. If the crude protein content is high, the rate of protein synthesis by urea will decrease. Tests have shown that when the crude protein content in feed is below 11%, the utilization of urea in the rumen is about 70%. The effect of increasing weight gain on cattle is quite obvious (increased by 39%); with the increase of crude protein content in feed, the effect of adding urea to increase weight gain is reduced; when the content of crude protein in feed reaches more than 12%, it is fed. Urea begins to affect weight gain or significant weight loss. In autumn, cows often feed on grasses and plant seeds. In these feeds, the nutrients contained are relatively comprehensive, especially crude protein content is high, usually 12% to 20%. Adding urea at this time will not only not achieve the desired effect, but will also play the opposite role. At the same time, it will also cause waste and increase the cost of feeding.
