The first product of the BIOS can be called "USB interface on the human body", previously known as "Cambridge Bio-Enhancement System (CBAS)." The product has been used to develop Prosthetic Interface Device (PID), which is capable of connecting a range of prostheses installed by an amputee into the nervous system. At present, PID is about to enter the clinical trial stage, and it is expected to control the prosthesis connected to the human body by decoding the nerve signals emitted by the human nervous system.
The BIOS was co-founded by computational neuroscientist Emil Hewage and bioengineer Oliver Armitage. In a brief telephone interview, the couple said that a series of research related to the development of PID not only made the company make a major breakthrough in hardware, but also accumulated a huge neural data set for the young founder, and also for the future. In fact, the main challenge in this field is how to collect and process large amounts of neural data and then accurately decode the neural signals. According to Hewageage and Armitage, these signals are very noisy, unpredictable and move around every corner of the human body at an alarming rate. In the future, the BIOS hopes to be able to connect directly to the nervous system through its neural interface, and then use AI to "read and write" neural signals to the nervous system to find and solve the underlying causes of various chronic diseases. For example, the potential to detect and “correct†neural signals may mean that humans can develop an alternative treatment for hypertension that will no longer rely on conventional drug therapy, especially for drug-resistant hypertension. important.
At the same time, BIOS said it is working with other companies and organizations while developing its own products and treatment options. Under the premise of focusing on the core interface and AI related technology, the improved application has both vertical and broad characteristics. The BIOS said that the company will use the funds to expand the technical team to further deepen the core technology of the development of neural interfaces.
