Vegetable mulching covers new forms

1. This mulching technique is ideal for growing vegetables such as cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants. A transparent film with a width of 90 to 100 cm and a thickness of 0.01 to 0.008 mm is placed on top of the sorghum mounds. The sides of the film are pressed down along the top of the dome, covering about two-thirds to three-quarters of the mound. The sorghum mounds should be 100 to 110 cm wide at the base, 80 to 85 cm wide at the top, 10 to 15 cm high, and spaced 30 to 40 cm apart. When building the mounds, make sure they are slightly raised in the center to help secure the film tightly.

2. This method is suitable for onions and cabbages. The mulch used here is 100 to 110 cm wide and can be adjusted according to the field length. Before planting, lay the film flat on the soil and press it down with soil around the edges. This technique is more efficient than using stakes but may cause surface pollution when irrigated and could raise the ground temperature slightly.

3. This form is commonly used for cultivating green peppers and cabbages. The size of the mounds is typically 73 cm wide at the base, 40 cm wide at the top, and 17 cm high. The mulch is laid over the planting area, and two or three rows of plants are grown per mound.

4. This technique is suitable for large frame cowpeas. The mounds are 53 cm wide at the base, 33 cm wide at the top, and 16 cm high. The mulch is placed directly on top of the mounds.

5. This method is ideal for early spring cabbage, water radishes, and root vegetables like spinach and leeks that regrow after winter. A short-term mulch is placed on the surface during sowing or before the plants return to green. It helps speed up growth and improves market readiness in the morning.

6. This approach is well-suited for green peppers, cucumbers, cabbages, tomatoes, and cowpeas. A furrow with a width of 40 to 50 cm and a depth of 15 to 20 cm is created, and seedlings (or seeds) are planted inside. The mulch is then placed over the furrow. After the seedlings emerge, the film is tied or cut open on top of the plants, allowing them to grow through the plastic once the risk of frost has passed. This allows earlier planting in areas prone to night frosts.

7. This technique is commonly used for growing green peppers, cucumbers, and eggplants. The film is placed over a pair of large mounds, with seeds or seedlings sown or planted inside the inner part of the double mounds. The film is then covered. The plants grow in the space between the mounds for a period of time before being led out of the film after the last frost.

8. This mulching style is suitable for vegetables like melons, cucumbers, and green peppers. After some crops have been established, bamboo or reeds can be used to create arches over the beds. These arches are typically 33 cm wide and 33 cm high. The film is then stretched over the arches and secured with soil. Once the danger of frost has passed, the mulch can be replaced with ground cover for continued protection.
