Agricultural resources identification method

Pesticide identification methods can be divided into several key techniques, each aimed at determining the quality and authenticity of the product. The first is the visual inspection method. Liquid pesticides should be clear and free from any sediment or oil slicks. For powdered pesticides, they should be fine and not clumped together. When wettable powders are mixed with water, they should form a stable emulsion. Additionally, always check the packaging for important details like the product registration number, production permit, and security mark. The shaking method is used mainly for emulsifiable concentrates. If the bottle contains Chinese herbal medicine and shows separation after shaking, it should be left to settle for an hour. If the layers still do not mix, the product may have degraded. The suspension test is suitable for wettable powders. Take a small amount of powder, mix it with water to form a paste, then add more water and let it stand. If sediment forms, it may indicate a counterfeit product. When identifying genuine and fake fertilizers, start by checking the packaging. Legitimate products usually have clear labels with information such as the manufacturer’s name, production license, standard numbers, nutrient content, and expiration date. Counterfeit bags often look cheap, with unclear text and poor sealing. Next, observe the color: nitrogen fertilizers are mostly white, potassium is often white or red, while phosphate fertilizers tend to be dark gray. To further verify, heat a sample on a metal sheet. Nitrogen-based fertilizers will produce distinct smoke and odors, while phosphates may change color when burned. Potassium fertilizers typically show no reaction but may make a crackling sound. Compound fertilizers may release ammonia if they contain ammonium compounds. For feed identification, sensory evaluation is one of the most effective methods. Examine the packaging for clarity and completeness of information. Check the appearance—color, texture, and presence of foreign materials. Smell the feed for any signs of mold or spoilage. Taste a small portion to detect unusual flavors or dryness. Feel the texture to assess moisture and consistency. Shaking the container can also help: a crisp sound indicates low moisture, which is a sign of quality. High-quality feed should have no musty smell, no irritation, and uniform particle size. To identify real versus fake urea, check its appearance—genuine urea is white, smooth, and has a greasy feel. When heated, it melts and releases a cool sensation when dissolved in water. Ammonium bicarbonate has a strong ammonia smell and dissolves easily. If it doesn’t release ammonia after being moistened, it might be fake. Ammonium nitrate burns with a bright flame, while counterfeit versions may not burn properly. In veterinary drug identification, ensure that the label clearly states “veterinary use” and includes all required information such as the generic name, composition, dosage, and expiration date. Proper labeling is essential for safety and effectiveness. When selecting fruit trees and seedlings, pay attention to variety purity, root health, and overall plant vigor. Choose reputable suppliers who can guarantee quality and provide technical support. For vegetable seeds, new seeds generally have a smooth surface, good germination rate, and distinct characteristics depending on the type. Germination tests under controlled conditions can help determine seed viability and freshness.
