Carbohydrates may cause blood sugar monitoring errors. The State Food and Drug Administration notified the US Food and Drug Administration on January 29 of its website about the safety warnings of blood sugar monitoring errors caused by carbohydrate drugs, and asked for food and drug at all levels in China. At present, there are several enzyme technologies applied to blood glucose monitoring, such as glucose dehydrogenase pyrroloquinoline quinone, glucose oxidase, glucose hexokinase, and the like. Among them, the blood glucose monitoring system using the glucose dehydrogenase pyrroloquinoline chymase technology produces a false high blood sugar level because it cannot distinguish between glucose and other sugar substances. Medical staff are prone to hypoglycemic coma, irreversible brain damage or death when they are given more insulin treatment according to the high blood glucose false value.
In order to further strengthen the supervision of medical devices and prevent related products from causing human injury in China, the State Food and Drug Administration invites food and drug supervision and administration departments at all levels to sort out the approved blood glucose monitoring system, using glucose dehydrogenase pyrroloquinoline.
