Scientists develop new equipment for purification of sewage, reverse osmosis filter

Currently, the Sandia National Laboratory in the United States is studying new ways to purify sewage into potable water. At this stage, the cost of purifying contaminated salt-laden water to drinking water is twice as high as that of drinking water alone, and as the population continues to increase, so does the cost.
According to the Associated Press reported on September 13, scientists at the Sandia National Laboratory are currently developing a reverse osmosis filter to purify sewage. Through the filter, particles larger than water molecules contaminated with mineral or organic matter will be filtered out.
Scientists have suggested that the design of the filter will mimic the cells of the human body, such as mimicking the structure of the cell membrane that can filter out harmful substances in the water. Scientists said: "This is called ecological simulation in scientific theory. The efficiency of human cells to purify salt water into potable water is 10 times higher than that of existing reverse osmosis filters. If we can develop a human body like this Cell filters, the cost of purifying water will be greatly reduced."

Scientists say the current task is focused on finding materials that are suitable for making such reverse osmosis filters.
