It is expected that this year will promote 5 million mu of new technology for the “integrated farming of rice fields” and more aquatic products such as river crabs and crayfish will appear in the rice fields. Rice fields with crabs and crayfish will not only reduce their production, but they can also use organic rice without pesticides.

Prof. Wang Wu introduced that in 2005, he discovered in Panshan, Liaoning Province that the “crabs in the rice fields” model raises the river crabs in the rice fields and can realize the mutual benefit and symbiosis between the two, and can also increase the economic benefits of rice field unit output. After research and improvement, Wang Wu led the team to explore a new technology for integrated cultivation of rice fields. The so-called "comprehensive planting" means that the cultured objects are not limited to a kind of aquatic products such as river crabs, crayfish and other economical crustaceans, and fish animals such as loach and astragalus can also be cultured.

Different from traditional paddy fields, the ridge spacing of crab-cultivated rice fields is not equal. Instead, the “big ridge and double-row” technology is adopted. The ridges that were originally equidistant from each other are grouped together in pairs to form a large ridge and a wide middle pool. To raise crabs. In the same area, the number of rice seedlings in crab-raising rice fields is the same as that of ordinary rice fields, and it will not reduce grain yield.

In 2009, Professor Wang Wu's graduate student conducted a comparative experiment in Panshan, Liaoning province. The results showed that crabs in rice fields will not only reduce food production, but also increase production. After the crabs eat the fortified nutrient feed, the feces are rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which just acts as a fertilizer. In addition, the use of "large ridge and double row" technology can make every hole of rice have a marginal effect, increase production.

Wang Wu said that in the process of rice cultivation, they use organic fertilizer as a base fertilizer and manure of river crabs, crayfish, and fish as top dressings. Generally, they do not use pesticides, and they produce organic rice without pollution. Promoting the integrated farming mode of paddy fields throughout the country can increase the output of organic rice, which is beneficial to the health of ordinary people and can also increase income for farmers.

In 2010, the comprehensive cultivation mode of paddy fields was widely promoted along the Yellow River irrigation area in Ningxia, totaling 51,000 mu. The crabs produce an average of 20 kilograms per mu. The average yield of rice is 8.8%, and the rice is all organic rice. The comprehensive benefits of rice and crabs are as high as 2,880 yuan/mu, which is 2.6 times higher than that of no crab land.

Professor Wang Wu revealed that this year, Ningxia plans to promote the cultivation of 100,000 mu of paddy fields. In Shanghai and Jiangsu and Zhejiang, they are planning to promote the combination of rice, crayfish and soft-shelled turtles.
