Fertilizer-based insecticide methods are effective in controlling pests. Using a 2% urea solution, 1% ammonium bicarbonate solution, or 0.5% ammonia spray, applying it every 7 to 10 days—sometimes up to two or three times—can have stimulating, fumigating, and corrosive effects on pests. This method is especially effective against small and weak pests like spider mites, thrips, aphids, and leaf miners. Additionally, a 2% calcium superphosphate leaching solution can be used to spray cotton plants. Not only does this help control the larvae of the cotton bollworm and deter egg-laying, but it also reduces the attractiveness of the plant to these pests, significantly lowering damage. Field tests have shown that applying 25 to 30 kg of silicon-calcium fertilizer per acre can effectively reduce infestations of aphids and other pests.
The ash-killing method involves soaking 10 kg of grass ash in 50 kg of water for a full day and night, then filtering and spraying the solution. This is effective in preventing aphids on fruit trees, flowers, and vegetables. Adding potassium fertilizer can enhance the crop’s resistance to lodging and improve the hardiness of seedlings against wind and cold. If trichlorfon is added to the solution, it enhances the contact and fumigation effect, increasing its effectiveness against pests like flies, aphids, and red spider mites.
The urine-washing mixture method typically uses 300 to 500 grams of urea and 100 grams of laundry detergent mixed with 50 kg of water. Spraying this mixture helps control pests such as red spiders and aphids on crops, vegetables, and fruit trees, while also providing some fertilizing benefits.
Bioinsecticides rely on natural predators or pathogenic microorganisms to manage pest populations. Common beneficial organisms include Trichogramma wasps, golden wasps, ladybugs, spiders, hornets, frogs, and swallows. By protecting and utilizing these natural enemies, farmers can not only control pests more effectively but also lower costs, protect the environment, and boost economic returns. These biological methods offer a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to chemical pesticides.
