The agricultural machinery is in danger of overdue service

In October this year, a tragic incident occurred in a town in Rencheng District, where a tractor struck two people consecutively. The cause was that the tractor had been in use for over 20 years, was in poor condition, and had failed brakes. It should have been scrapped long ago but wasn’t. The cost to treat the injured reached several thousand yuan. This kind of outdated agricultural machinery is not rare in some rural areas. You often see old tractors spewing thick black smoke, struggling to move forward. At first glance, it may seem like a way to maximize equipment usage, but in reality, it’s far from economical or safe.
First, using these "overdue" machines increases operating costs. The aging parts and worn-out components lead to reduced power, higher fuel consumption, and more frequent repairs. These factors make the overall cost of ownership much higher than expected.
Second, there's a serious safety risk. Tractors that have exceeded their service life often have critical parts that are close to or past their fatigue limit. Moreover, many owners are unwilling to invest in repairs, which means these vehicles can fail at any moment, leading to dangerous accidents. Such incidents pose a real threat to people's lives and property.
In my opinion, the agricultural machinery supervision department should take a more active role in educating farmers about the importance of economic efficiency and safety. For outdated machinery, strict scrapping policies must be enforced to ensure public safety and prevent future tragedies. It's time to move beyond short-term savings and focus on long-term security and sustainability.
