Five Methods for Feeding Management of Beef Cattle

First, beef cattle are typically fed twice a day, which makes feeding schedules easy to manage. However, research suggests that increasing the frequency of feeding and extending the time cattle spend eating can lead to higher body fat and weight gain, while also reducing the proportion of lean meat and ketone bodies in the carcass. This approach may be more beneficial for marbling and overall meat quality.
Second, barley and corn are the two primary feed sources for beef cattle. While some studies indicate that cattle fed barley may have slightly better flavor compared to those fed corn under similar conditions, the difference is minimal and unlikely to significantly influence consumer preferences. The choice between these grains often depends on local availability and cost-effectiveness.
Third, adding specific enzymes such as ligninase or cellulase to the diet can enhance the digestibility of the feed, leading to a slight improvement in the taste and quality of the beef. These enzymes help break down complex plant materials, making nutrients more accessible to the cattle regardless of the type of concentrate used.
Fourth, poultry manure, when properly dried and disinfected, can serve as a valuable protein source for beef cattle. This practice not only helps recycle nutrients but also reduces waste, offering an environmentally friendly option for feed supplementation.
Lastly, rumen modifiers, such as ionophores, are commonly used as feed additives for beef cattle. When provided at a daily rate of about 300 grams per cow, they help regulate rumen fermentation and improve feed efficiency. Since these additives are not digested by the cattle, they leave no residue in the animal’s system and do not affect the quality or safety of the beef.
Freeze-dried fruit powder is to freeze the raw material into a solid state first, and then dry it through vacuum, so that the water gradually sublimates out of the ice, and finally get the food raw material in the powder state. Freeze drying technology can completely preserve the taste and nutritional content of food without adding any other additives.
