Cucumber fertilization tips

Cucumbers have a weak root system and limited nutrient absorption capacity, making them sensitive to excessive fertilization. To ensure healthy growth and high yields, it's important to apply balanced and timely fertilizers. This includes using sufficient base fertilizer, followed by regular top dressing and foliar feeding. Here’s a detailed guide on how to properly fertilize cucumbers:

1. Base Fertilizer: Apply 3000–4000 kg of well-decomposed organic manure per acre. You can speed up the decomposition process by using Jinbao fermentation aid. Add 1–2 kg of Jinbao microbial fertilizer along with 10 kg of phosphate fertilizer and 15 kg of potassium fertilizer. Mix everything thoroughly into the soil during land preparation. In long-term greenhouse cultivation, it's recommended to add 2 kg of ferrous sulfate, 2 kg of zinc sulfate, and 1 kg of borax to improve soil quality.

2. Planting Fertilizer: Use 400–500 kg of high-quality organic fertilizer. Spread it evenly on the ridge before planting, then level the soil and form the ridges.

3. Top Dressing: After the cucumber plants start setting fruit, their yield potential is mostly established. At this stage, proper fertilization helps increase both fruit size and overall yield. Seven to ten days after fruit set, apply 10–15 kg of DAP (diammonium phosphate) per acre. Water once every 5–10 days, and during irrigation, mix in 0.1–0.2 kg of Golden Baby Algae Microorganism Fertilizer. After two or three fruiting cycles, apply 10–20 kg of urea per acre to help control female flower development, promote the growth of the cucumber "head," and prevent misshapen fruits, ensuring continuous high yields throughout the season.

4. Foliar Spraying: This is an effective way to quickly supply nutrients directly to the leaves. Use 0.5 kg of Goldfish powder microbial agent per mu, dissolve it in water, take the supernatant for foliar spraying, and use the residue as a root drench for better nutrient absorption.
