The disease is a highly contagious condition that affects all strains of the plant. It primarily targets the trunk and main branches, impacting both young seedlings and mature trees. Infected plants typically develop small, round blisters near the lenticels, which initially appear as tiny spots and gradually expand into more prominent, blister-like lesions. These blisters contain a light brown liquid that, once ruptured, turns dark brown upon exposure to air. As the disease progresses, the affected areas shrink and eventually fall off, leaving a central longitudinal crack in the bark. In severe cases, the lesions on the trunk become dense and merge together, causing the bark to darken, rot, and ultimately leading to the death of the plant.

The disease is most active between April and May, with a second peak occurring in late September. This seasonal pattern suggests that environmental conditions during these periods are particularly favorable for the pathogen's development and spread.

To manage the disease effectively, it is crucial to promptly remove and destroy infected or dead plants to prevent further contamination. A fungicidal treatment can be applied by diluting carbendazim or trichlorfon at a ratio of 20-30 times and thoroughly spraying the entire plant. For best results, this treatment should be repeated 3 to 4 times within a span of one week. Consistent application helps to suppress the pathogen and reduce the risk of re-infection. Additionally, maintaining good sanitation practices and monitoring the plants regularly can help detect early signs of the disease and allow for timely intervention.
