Selenium is one of the 14 trace elements necessary for the human body, and it has important physiological functions such as participating in immune regulation, preventing cancer, and inhibiting pathogenic bacteria. Selenium is also an essential component of many enzyme activity centers in mammals, such as glutathione peroxidase (GPx), deiodinase (ID), etc., which protect cells from excessive oxidative damage.

Studies have shown that cereals, fruits and vegetables have low levels of selenium and do not meet the daily dietary needs of selenium 55 μg/d (recommended dietary intake). The common inorganic selenium selenite has strong toxic side effects. Therefore, the method of converting inorganic selenium into intracellular organic selenium through the absorption and metabolism process of the microbes as a carrier has received extensive attention from relevant experts at home and abroad.

As a new source of organic selenium, lactic acid bacteria have been recognized by consumers because of its good health care function and reliable safety. Its biological effects and potential development and application prospects are very broad. In this paper, the selenium-enriching ability experiment was carried out with the induced Lactobacillus plantarum as the starting strain. Firstly, the method for determining the selenium-enriched amount of the bacteria was introduced. Then the best selenium-enriched strain of Lactobacillus plantarum was determined by single factor experiment and corresponding surface analysis. The culture conditions lay the foundation for further research and application of selenium-enriched lactic acid bacteria.

Sorfa vacuum filter and bottle top filters are ideal labware consumables for filtering cell culture media, biological fluids and aqueous solution. Filter System are manufactured from raw materials of high transparency polystyrene in four different volumes: 150ml, 250 ml, 500ml and 1000 ml. The system consists of a bottle top filter with blue PE adapter and a solution bottle. Lid should be removed from bottle top filter before pouring media into bottle to filter impurities. Meanwhile, closing lid on bottle is necessary for prevent contamination when not in use.

Clear graduation is graved both on top filter and solution bottle to help users to adjust media volume. To meet the global market needs, membranes in top filter are available in four materials: PES, MCE, PVDF and NYLON. The four types of membrane are in pore size of 0.22 um or 0.45 um. All Sorfa tissue culture dishes are packaged in bags with sterilization, RNase-free, DNase-free and Non-pyrogenic.

Brief of Membrane

  1. 1.PES (polyether sulfone) is high chemical, thermal stabile and has fast-flowing ability, acid and alkali resistant ability ( PH range 1-14), with high mechanical strength.

  1. 2.MCE(mixed cellulose esters) is the mixture of cellulose nitrate and cellulose acetate which is hydrophilic, chemical compatible and has a high amount of protein adsorption. Generally, it applies to particle analysis, particle place, biochemical analysis, HPLC sample preparation and solvent filtration.

  1. 3.PVDF(polyvinylidene fluoride) has chemical stability and inertness which is applicable to chemically aggressive organic solvents, strong acids and alkali solution and sample preparation of HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) analysis. It`s hydrophobic to filter off moisture in the air, gases and is laminated on supporting net for its strong strength, operability. Preferably, it`s resistant to a high temperature of 130 degrees.
  2. 4.NYLON(organic nylon 66) is applicable in most organic solvents and aqueous solution, for instance, organic solvents of strong acid, 70% ethanol and methylene chloride. It has good strength, chemical stability and high temperature resistant ability.
