Several small knowledge points in the analysis of X-ray fluorescence spectrometer

1. X-ray fluorescence spectrometer can accurately and quantitatively analyze cadmium, lead and mercury!
2. For polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) can only measure the total amount of bromine!
X-ray fluorescence spectrometers (whether portable or benchtop) can detect the presence or absence of bromide, but cannot distinguish between prohibited substances PBB/PBDEs and other types of brominated flame retardants, such as TBBPA (tetrabromobisphenol A). TBBPA is used in a wide variety of applications, for example, in practice on the boards of every appliance. Therefore, effective identification can only be performed using expensive and time-consuming destructive chemical methods (GCMS).
3, the total amount of chromium can only be measured for 6-valent chromium!
X-ray fluorescence spectrometer can only measure the total amount of chromium, but can not enter a morphological analysis. Because hexavalent chromium is hazardous, it is prohibited by the RoHS directive. However, trivalent chromium is not toxic, so it can be used safely. But at present, no non-destructive testing method can distinguish between trivalent chromium, hexavalent chromium and metallic chromium.
When the concentration of chromium is very low, it is obvious that the product is in compliance with the RoHS directive; if the concentration of chromium is high (beyond the relevant indicator), further testing is required to identify if there is hexavalent chromium.
