Radar device monitors baby breathing
Release date: 2008-12-26
Engineers have been working on developing a prototype device designed to monitor a baby's breathing. This innovative system, installed in the crib, is capable of detecting when a baby stops breathing and immediately alerting the parents.
The technology behind this device utilizes Doppler radar, which is typically used for tracking movement, such as in air traffic control or vehicle navigation. In this case, it’s adapted to detect subtle chest movements caused by breathing.
Jenson Lin, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at a university in Florida, has been at the forefront of researching how Doppler radar can be applied to monitor infants. He explained that the remote unit features different colored lights—red, blue, green, and yellow—that indicate various conditions of the baby’s vital signs. If the parent sees the device triggering a loud alarm along with a red light through the video feed, it means the baby’s breathing has dropped below a safe level or has stopped entirely.
Currently, millions of parents in the United States use baby monitoring systems, and devices that transmit audio or video are widely appreciated for their benefits. Looking ahead, the technology could be integrated into mobile phones, transforming them into portable tools for monitoring a baby’s health. This advancement could offer greater convenience and peace of mind for caregivers, especially when they're away from home.
The Shanghai Medical Device Industry Association has been closely following these developments, recognizing the potential impact of such innovations on infant safety and healthcare. As research continues, the future of baby monitoring may become more sophisticated, reliable, and accessible to families around the world.
Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer used in a wide range of applications among which we usually use it to make pharmaceutical packaging products. Each time when we receive the original Polypropylene materials we have ordered, we will do a series of modifications on them to form some useful pellets that will used in our products. One kind of these reproduced particles will be used to make caps for pharmaceutical ampoule bottles. We now have a big stable customer base in our domestic market. In future, we will do our best to serve the worldwide clients. If you are looking for a cooperator in our country, maybe we are a good choice for you. Warmly wait for your inquires!
