The application of greenhouse warming agents begins with proper site preparation and fertilization. About 15 to 20 days before planting, clear the field of existing vegetation, perform deep plowing, and incorporate organic manure—such as chicken, pig, horse, cow, sheep, or rabbit dung—into the soil at a rate of 3–4 cubic meters per mu. Mix this with 70% of the recommended compound fertilizer and chemical fertilizer, then spread it evenly over the surface of the goji berry field.
Next, ensure proper layout: after soil preparation, mark a line that is 1.2 to 1.3 meters wide, dig a ditch in the center that is 0.4 meters wide and 0.3 meters deep, and place the excavated soil on both sides of the planting area.
For the preparation of the goldbeet warming agent, use approximately 4 kg (4 bags) of the warming agent per hectare, along with 40 kg of wheat bran or rice bran—fresh bran is preferable. For a typical greenhouse measuring 60 meters by 7 meters, you would need about 3 kg of the warming agent and 30 kg of bran. Mix 1 kg of the warming bacteria with 10 kg of bran, add around 8 kg of water, and mix thoroughly until the moisture level is just right—when squeezed, it should hold together without dripping.
Alternatively, you can mix the bacteria in a 20–25°C environment and let it sit for 12–24 hours. Afterward, distribute corn stalks evenly into the ditches. Once compacted, ensure the level of the ditch matches the surrounding area. After placing the stalks, spray the surface with a 2% urea solution (or 2% brown sugar solution), then spread the prepared fermenting agent evenly over the stalks. Use a shovel to mix it in, shaking the pile slightly so that some of the microbes fall down into the stalk layer.
It is recommended to combine this with 1–2–3 cubic meters of composted manure per mu, particularly chicken manure. Mix the remaining 30% of chemical fertilizer with a fungicide to enhance and extend the fertilizer’s effectiveness for more than a year. Fertilizer can also be applied in different layers of straw, but avoid over-application.
After applying the straw, fermenting agent, and fertilizer, cover the area with soil, filling about 90% of the original trench and covering it with straw. Compact the soil gently using a shovel, ensuring the straw remains hidden. The soil cover should be approximately 0.2 meters thick, forming a raised bed. Leave the remaining soil slightly higher in the channel for easier walking and watering.
Water the area about 10 days before planting, and make sure the straw is fully soaked after three days. When planting, dig holes 8–10 cm away from the ditch, apply biofertilizer and insecticides into the planting pits, and water the seedlings before planting. After planting, drill holes in the straw fermentation heap using a pointed wooden or steel drill with a diameter of about 3 cm. Space the holes approximately 15 cm apart, and drill them at an angle to penetrate the straw layer, allowing for good air circulation and carbon dioxide release.
This golden rice straw greenhouse warming agent and its associated technology can be used across various types of greenhouses, including those for seasonal fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants. After years of testing and demonstration, the results have been highly effective and promising.
