Agricultural tractors reduce consumption of oil

In order to help reduce this year’s agricultural production costs, I’d like to share some general knowledge about selecting the right tractor oil for farming households. I hope this information will be helpful and make your “machinery” operations more efficient. First, when it comes to choosing diesel fuel, agricultural tractors typically use light diesel oil. Light diesel is categorized by its pour point, such as 10#, 0#, -10#, -20#, and -35#. To save on expenses, in Jilin Province, most areas only need 0# or -20# diesel for regular agricultural work. In summer, 0# diesel is commonly used, while -20# is recommended for winter. In other regions, you should choose the appropriate grade based on local temperature conditions. It's important to note that in extremely cold weather, -35# diesel may be necessary for machinery used in transportation. Second, for diesel engine oil, it's essential to use the correct type. Diesel engine oil is generally available in grades 8#, 11#, and 14#. During the summer, 8# oil is usually sufficient, while 11# is better suited for winter conditions. Third, gear oil selection is also crucial. Gear oil is typically divided into 20# and 30#. In summer, 30# is recommended, while 20# is more suitable for winter. A key warning: never substitute engine oil for gear oil, nor mix gear oil with diesel or kerosene. Doing so can lower the viscosity and reduce lubrication performance, which may lead to increased wear on gears. Fourth, when choosing grease (lubricating oil), it’s important not to use a one-size-fits-all approach. Different parts of the diesel engine require different types of grease depending on their operating conditions. For example: 1. Parts that come into contact with water or moisture and operate at lower temperatures should use calcium-based or synthetic calcium grease. 2. High-temperature components are better suited for calcium-based or synthetic calcium grease. 3. Parts that don’t come into contact with water and operate at high temperatures can use sodium-based or synthetic sodium grease. 4. For high-temperature and heavy-load conditions, higher-grade grease should be selected. 5. Generally, higher-grade grease is used in summer, while lower-grade grease is preferred in winter. By following these guidelines, farmers can ensure their equipment runs smoothly, reduces maintenance costs, and improves overall efficiency. Taking the time to understand and apply proper lubrication practices can go a long way in extending the life of your machinery and saving money in the long run.
