Early spring orchard extermination method

In the old saying, it goes, "To eat pears, you must peel the bark." This advice makes perfect sense. The rough, cracked, and flaky bark of fruit trees often hides a variety of pests such as Pyrosphaeridae, Hawthorn spider mites, Myzus persicae, Mythica spp., Myxidae, Pyriacidae, and others. Before the buds start to open in early spring, it's essential to thoroughly remove the rough bark and cut the fissures on the stems—especially at the branches. This process can effectively eliminate a large number of overwintering pests. When peeling the bark, aim to remove only the light brown layer, leaving the green part intact. During this process, place a plastic sheet under the tree to collect the removed bark and debris, then dispose of them by deep burial or burning. For trees affected by rot or blight, apply Fumei arsenic or lime sulfur after scraping to prevent and treat the disease. Pruning fruit trees in early spring is not just an important practice for improving soil quality and boosting fruit production, but also an effective way to control overwintering pests. By deeply tilling the soil, pests like peach borers and peach twig borers, along with pathogens that survive in the ground, are brought to the surface where they can be frozen, dried, or consumed by natural predators. Additionally, dead branches, rolled leaves, and weeds containing pests such as moths, aphids, and red spiders are buried underground, preventing them from emerging normally. Before the overwintering larvae become active, cover the area around the tree with a mulch film that matches the size of the canopy. Cut a slit from one side to the center, pull the edge of the film up along the trunk, and bury the edges underground. Leave about 20 centimeters exposed and secure it tightly with a rope (the film can last until early September). This method has proven very effective in reducing damage caused by pests like red spider mites, peach borers, and others. During the dormant season, spray deciduous fruit trees with diesel oil containing 4% to 5% concentration, or use lime sulfur at 5 degrees Baumé. These treatments are highly effective against scale insects, red spider mites, apple rot, pear scab, and grape black spot disease. Applying these solutions during dormancy ensures better pest control and healthier trees for the upcoming growing season.
