Rotary cultivators attached to wheeled tractors typically regulate the depth of tillage through the tractor's hydraulic system. For both full and half-separated hydraulic systems, position adjustment is essential. In the case of a split hydraulic system, the depth of the paddle is adjusted using positioning clamps on the cylinder rod. During operation, the control joystick should be set to the "floating" position. When using a walking tractor for rotary cultivation, the depth of the tilling is controlled by adjusting the height of the tail wheel.
It’s important to keep the rack in a horizontal and level position during operation. The front and rear positions should also remain aligned horizontally. The suspension boom’s left and right arms are used to adjust the level. When the tractor moves at a constant speed, the cutter shaft rotates faster, resulting in better soil processing. Conversely, a slower rotation of the cutter shaft leads to less effective soil breaking. If the cutter shaft speed remains constant, a faster tractor speed increases the amount of soil being worked. Generally, the cutter shaft operates at a slower speed, but if extremely fine soil is needed or if double plowing is required, a higher gear can be selected. During rotary tilling, tractors usually use first and second gears, while a third gear is recommended for double plowing operations.
